Applications of Methylparaben

Methylparaben also called as Nipagin is white crystalline powder. Odorless And Tasteless .Easily soluble in alcohol, ether and acetone, slightly soluble in water. It can be refined by the means of esterification catalyzed by sulfuric acid of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and methanol. Generally speaking, the performance of methylparaben is extremely stable. Even at high temperature (100 ℃ less), it will not occur decomposition or the change of bacteriostatic activity. It is a kind of important material that is widely used in many areas.
Methylparaben is organic intermediates that is generally used for pharmaceutical, food, spices, additives, preservative of film and so on. It is a powerful fungicide with very low toxicity, which nearly has no stimulation for human bodies. So it can be used as cosmetic preservatives, which belongs to phenolic preservatives. Generally speaking, it can play effective part in a variety of molds, yeasts, bacteria. However, the bactericidal power of methylparaben is a little low, so it is usually associated with propyl paraben to have a good additive and synergistic. As the cosmetic preservative, methylparaben can be used for creams, lotions, baby products, sunscreen products, shampoo, wet wipes, and other products that remain in the skin to effectively inhibit the gram positive bacteria, yeast and molds. Generally speaking, its antiseptic activity has a close relationship with the PH value of solution. And it will lose antiseptic activity once it is bound by some molecular compounds such as methyl cellulose, gelatin protein. Methylparaben products is easy to us, safe and reliable, and has stable properties, so at the required concentrations it is nearly not irritated to our skin and eye mucous membrane. And the most important point is that it doesn’t pollute environment at all. In short, methylparaben product is the most ideal and efficient preservative in daily chemical industry. Besides, methylparaben is a kind of chemically inert material that leads it to have easy compatibility with a variety of chemical substances.
In addition, for the pharmaceutical industry, methylparaben can be used as an antiseptic agent. It also can be used in organic synthesis and food, spices, additives, corrosion protection film and so on. And for food industry, it can be used as preservative for soy sauce, vinegar, spices, pickles, baked goods, sauces, beverages, wine, and fresh fruits and vegetables, which has very wide applications. Furthermore, the similar products of methylparaben are also disinfection preservation, such as Ethylparaben (Nipagin B), propyl paraben (paraben c), but these two products have some stimulation to human skin.
