Is methylparaben safe to use?
While reactions vary from person to person, methylparaben is generally thought to be safe. It does not build up a concentration in the body and is non-toxic. It tends to be non-irritating so it is good for sensitive skin. That being said, some people may be allergic to methylparaben, in which case they would experience effects typical to those experienced by people who are exposed to an allergen. Some studies have shown that methylparaben disrupts endocrine production, and that it may damage skin pigment in certain forms, specifically the sodium methylparaben found in some perfumes. However, the FDA has declared methylparaben to be safe to use.

What does methylparaben do?
The action of Methylparaben is to kill unwanted bacteria, fungi and microbes that might otherwise grow in beauty products and be potentially harmful. It is generally believed to be effective in this regard, which is why it is so popular for use in beauty products, as well as food and drugs.

What if you are worried about methylparaben?
Although the FDA has deemed methylparaben safe, it’s natural to be concerned about any substance that has any literature suggesting it may have ill-effects. If you don’t want methylparaben in your beauty products, you don’t have to have it. You can find plenty of brands that offer organic beauty products which contain ingredients that have not been subjected to pesticides, antibacterial agents, or similar chemical substances. Remember that just because a product is described as organic doesn’t necessarily mean it is completely organic.
